The NYT Institute and a new site

Usually when this site is lacking in updates, it’s a sign that the I’ve been busy. This last month has been no exception.

Here at NYTRMG we recently launched a redesign of one of our papers in Hendersonville, NC. While I can’t say I was a major role in the development of this site, I did spend the last couple weeks making the finishing touches and getting the site ready for launch. I also got to spend the past week helping out at the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. It’s a program the company set up a few years ago which invites 30 students to come to New Orleans for two weeks and produce a paper with guidance from some of The New York Times professional staff. Though this was my first time helping at the institute, it’s easy to see that it’s an amazing opportunity for the students. Many of them walk away with internships at one of our newspapers. Though after witnessing first-hand how hard they have to work for the two weeks, their internships are well-deserved. You can see some of the work they produced online at I may be a bit partial, but I think they definitely wrote some amazing stuff. They were even able to get an exclusive interview with Hillary Clinton. Not bad for two week program.
