A few weeks ago, the Spartanburg Herald-Journal launched a redesign of their site. It’s a clean design that makes great use of whitespace. Last night I received a note from the Online Director there with a little more information about the redesign. It was great to hear that he followed a 14-column grid for his new layout. It seems designing with grids is becoming a popular trend, especially in newspaper web design.

I decided to check the grid on their site with GridFox, my Firefox plugin which can overlay a grid on any website. And… it didn’t work. There was a bug which caused the grid to only cover the top 50px of the site, most likely having something to do with how the page had been coded. It was a simple fix and now GridFox should be compatible with even more sites. If you’re using GridFox, please take a second to download version 1.1.
